Rebel with a cause

Nehemiah reminded the dissenters that God was in control. Nehemiah reminded the dissenters that they had no claim in the things God was doing. By doing this Nehemiah reminded himself and those he lead about the benefits of joining God. Notice that the three ungodly leaders accused Nehemiah of rebellion. If you are going to lead renewal you will be accused of being a rebel! So what! Pastors should be rebellious for God’s glory. Rebels are folks who are tired of things the way they are! Nehemiah was not a safe man. He was a rebel and leveraged his whole life in leading people to live in open rebellion against the brokenness of that day. Some how we have a concept that pastors are to be safe, passive men; I believe that God wants us dangerous and untamed. God wants us to lead a rebellion against sin, brokenness, and complacency. When people accuse you of of being a rebel, thank them you are like Jesus the true rebel.
One thought, Nehemiah's rebellion was against what was wrong. Make sure your rebellion is not just for the sake of rebellion. We need to be rebels with the cause of Christ not just crazy!
